The Golden Age GA-8000 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone based on the legendary Sony C-800g Tube microphone.
The Golden Age GA-8000 features a similar semiconductor active cooling system of the original to provide an improved signal-to-noise ratio. The 6AU6 tube is mounted in an aluminium casing that is directly connected to the semiconductor cooling chip, actively dissipating the valve’s heat into the air via the effective outer aluminium alloy heat sink at the rear. This is system is necessary because of the high voltage necessary to power the NOS CIFTE 6AU6 tube.
Inside, the GA-800G uses a Rogers ceramic gold-plated circuit board which is usually found in high-end aerospace communication products. Furthermore, the capsule is built with a specialist company with over twenty years of experience in producing microphone capsules ensuring the highest quality and a truly modern character with very high SPL handling capabilities.
A modern power supply with solid-state rectifiers powers the high voltage rail and was chosen for its sonic performance. All other components have been carefully chosen for their sonic properties and reliability. All metal resistors and electrolytic capacitors are audiophile-grade and are sourced from Japan while coupling capacitors come from Siemens EPCOS in Germany. Furthermore, all connecting wires are oxygen-free copper wires issued from Japan and Golden Age uses Felder silver/copper-containing solder from Germany.
