The ASM Hydrasynth SE LTD Edition is a 5-year anniversary limited edition of the distinctive 8-voice polyphonic wavetable synthesizer. It features an excellent user interface, polyphonic aftertouch, lush stereo effects, and extensive modulation capabilities to satisfy even the most discerning sound designers.
The keyboard version boasts a 49-note keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch, offering extensive hands-on control over the synth's powerful editing potential. Each voice consists of three wavetable oscillators with access to 219 single-cycle waveforms and a wave morphing modifier, allowing you to create custom wavetables by morphing through selected wavetables.
The oscillators also include Mutators for applying FM, sync, PWM, and a variety of other modulation types. The Hydrasynth excels in modulation management with an intuitive approach:
The front panel features a block diagram of the signal flow. For instance, to use LFO1 to modulate Oscillator 1, select LFO1, then VCO1, and set the modulation depth. You're all set—it's that straightforward.
The synth includes five unique LFOs, each with a step mode that transforms them into mini step sequencers if desired. This provides numerous options for sound animation with minimal effort.
The user interface allows for a broad range of controls in addition to its advanced modulation handling. The master control’s contextually sensitive array of eight encoders lets you manage the selected part of the synthesis engine from the block diagram, putting all aspects of that "module" at your fingertips.
Moreover, when not in the contextually sensitive control section, the eight encoders function as macro controllers, enabling multiple functions with independent depth per encoder. This setup allows for significant changes and complete transformation of a patch with a single knob turn.
For modular users, the Hydrasynth includes seven modular connections: two dedicated modulation inputs and five outputs for pitch, gate, mod 1, mod 2, and analogue clock. This makes it an excellent centrepiece for syncing your DAW with your modular environment.
