With up to 72 channels, Class-A microphone preamps, a four-band split-able EQ, a VCA mix bus compressor, John Hardy 990C discrete mix amplifiers, in-line architecture, and a comprehensive monitor control system, it delivers exceptional audio performance while remaining true to its renowned heritage.
This Ex Demo configuration includes the Dual Layer Control, which expands functionality and control, enhancing integration with DAW-based workflows. To improve ergonomics, the Audient ASP8024 armrest "bump" provides a comfortable space for a keyboard and mouse, while the Audient ASP8024 shelf depth extension increases workspace depth to 300mm, offering a more efficient and adaptable studio setup.
The ASP8024-HE introduces Retro Iron, a variable mix bus technology that enhances the console’s output stage with a warm, vintage character. Inspired by custom-built consoles from the 1970s, this circuit integrates a powerful output amplifier and Carnhill output transformers, adding depth, punch, and musicality to the mix. Designed as a tribute to the classic American and British consoles of the late 1960s, Retro Iron delivers a unique tonal richness. It features a subtle low-end bump and high-frequency lift, inspired by vintage mastering EQs, which provide a more open and spacious sound. The Retro and Iron circuits can be engaged independently, allowing engineers to tailor the harmonic enhancement of their mix bus.
Significant improvements have been made to the mix bus section, ensuring cleaner, more dynamic performance. The ASP8024-HE now incorporates John Hardy Co. 990C discrete amplifiers, known for their ultra-low noise floor and robust sonic characteristics. The VCA mix bus compressor has also been upgraded, featuring a smoother make-up gain circuit and a high-pass filter in the compressor’s sidechain, accessible through the Bass Expand feature. This enhancement prevents excessive low-frequency energy from triggering the compressor, resulting in greater mix clarity and balance.
Based on professional user feedback, the ASP8024-HE has seen multiple refinements aimed at improving workflow and usability. A new monitoring-grade headphone amplifier ensures accurate and detailed playback, while latching footswitch triggers enable hands-free talkback control for seamless communication during recording sessions. The console also benefits from a high-quality ALPS main monitor pot, providing precise level control. The FaderLink plug-in has been enhanced for better integration with the 8-channel VCA faders in the Dual Layer Control module, allowing for greater automation and DAW control.
The linear power supply has been further refined to be even quieter, ensuring stable, noise-free operation. Built with a modular construction, the ASP8024-HE remains reliable and serviceable, making it an ideal investment for professional studios.
