The AudioScape Limited-Edition Gold Opto Comp is a special release of just twenty custom gold-anodized front panels, designed to commemorate the holiday season and support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Supporting a Good Cause
All profits from the sale of these Gold Opto Comps will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Despite the limited edition design, the price remains the same as a standard Opto Comp. Purchasing this unique version not only allows professionals to add a distinguished piece to their collection but also contributes to a charitable cause.
Classic Design with Modern Enhancements
The AudioScape Opto Comp is a precise reproduction of the iconic optical tube compressor from the 1960s, a revered piece known for its musicality, smooth compression, and distinctive tone. It emulates the original by using an incandescent light bulb and optical sensor for dynamic control, while maintaining the classic tube and transformer signal path that defines its sound. AudioScape's model stays true to these roots, incorporating their own custom-built T4B opto-attenuator and utilising NOS (new old stock) tubes for authentic, high-quality performance.
State-of-the-Art Craftsmanship
AudioScape’s Opto Comp is engineered with a perfect blend of vintage and contemporary technology. It includes modern updates to improve usability and tonal flexibility, all while preserving the essence of the original circuit. These refinements include NOS carbon-composite resistors, which enhance the overall fidelity and dynamic response. The heart of the Opto Comp lies in the in-house manufactured T4B opto-attenuator, made with top-tier photocells and replica EL panels, ensuring exceptional sound quality.
Increased Versatility
One key modern improvement is the relocation of the R37 high-frequency control trim pot from the rear panel to the front. Historically, this control was set by the factory for a flat side-chain response, but by placing it on the front, users can now conveniently adjust it. Turning the control counter-clockwise increases the resistance, filtering out low-frequency energy and directing the compression to focus on higher frequencies. This makes the Opto Comp even more versatile, allowing users to tailor the compression characteristics to their needs.
Built with Precision
The construction of the Opto Comp reflects meticulous attention to detail, with each unit being hand-assembled in small batches in the USA. Every assembler is responsible for only two products at a time, ensuring thorough mastery and the highest level of craftsmanship. This hands-on approach allows for tight quality control throughout the entire production process.
AudioScape uses premium components throughout the design, including ½ watt carbon composite resistors and capacitors from trusted brands like Cornell Dubilier, Panasonic, and Nichicon. The use of NOS vintage tubes and custom-wound Cinemag transformers further elevates the quality, while the T4B opto-attenuators are crafted in-house to match the original specifications with superior components.
