Mothership 3 enhances the B16’s ability to handle more channels per slot, allowing each daughter card slot to support up to 32 channels at 88.2kHz and 96kHz. This upgrade optimises the system’s performance, making it ideal for studios handling large, high-fidelity audio projects.

Automatic IO Configuration


The B16 Mothership 3 introduces a new intercommunication protocol that automatically detects and configures daughter cards without requiring manual jumper settings. This allows users to mix and match input and output cards in any order, with automatic channel assignment. This feature simplifies the setup process, enabling maximum flexibility in arranging and managing audio channels.

Seamless SoundGrid Integration

The BMB4-Soundgrid motherboard allows the B16 Mothership 3 to integrate seamlessly with Waves SoundGrid networks, offering professional studios high-speed, low-latency audio networking. This integration is perfect for large-scale productions and multi-room studios where flexible, high-channel-count setups are required, ensuring efficient audio routing and reliable performance.

Compatibility and Future-Proofing

The B16 Mothership 3 is fully compatible with Burl Audio’s GREEN line of 4- and 8-channel daughter cards. New GREEN daughter cards shipped after 7 October 2024 will include a "D Jumper" setting to ensure Mothership 3 compatibility. Additionally, the B16 supports the new BURL BLACK daughter cards, providing studios with a future-proof solution that can adapt to their evolving needs.

Upgrade Options and Considerations

For existing Mothership 2 users, the system will continue to function with full capabilities. However, Mothership 3 is not field-upgradable, and units must be sent back to Burl Audio for reprogramming, provided that all cards are the latest revision. Importantly, there is no difference in sound quality between Mothership 2 and 3, so users can comfortably stick with Mothership 2 if the new features are not essential.
