The Dynaudio Lyd-5 is an active studio monitor with handcrafted 5” drivers, state of the art Class D amplification and next-generation DSP.

The Dynaudio Lyd-5 uses a Class-D bi-amplification system with 50W allocated to each driver and featuring a 24bit/96kHz signal path. An Analog Devices DSP handles the crossover. Dynaudio’s latest DSP also provides Bass Extension control, Sound Balance and Position functionalities to provide optimum performance in each room. A selectable Standby Mode lets you save energy when silence is detected.

Using Dynaudio’s famous soft-dome silk tweeter with an aluminium voice coil allows the natural and uncoloured reproduction of high frequencies ensuring no ear fatigue occurs even after long sessions. The Low Frequency driver features Dynaudio trademarked 5” woofer made of Magnesium Silicate Polymer, which offers the best balance between rigidity, weight and dampening. The improved aluminium voice coil ensures better thermal behaviour, which reduces thermal distortion. A larger Aluminium diameter voice coil provides increased cooling and allows the flat cone design to provide better off-axis frequency response and superior transient response.

The Bass Extension control provides the user with the option to monitor at louder volume with less bass or at quieter SPL but with more bass, all without affecting the linearity of the frequency response.  The three settings are accessed at the back of the speaker and provide three options. 0Hz setting (factory default), +10Hz/+5dB and -10Hz/-5dB.

The Position Control lets you adapt the response of your speaker depending on its position in the room. Speakers placed close to a wall can become problematic with uneven peaks and troughs that affect our ability to mix accurately. To circumvent this problem the Lyd-5 offers two different settings, “Free” for when the speakers are free standing (more that 50cm away from a wall) or “Wall” when they are positioned within 50cm of a wall.

Finally the Sound Balance control provides a tilt-filter, which tunes the speaker in a linear fashion. The tilt filter lifts the 20kHz by 1.5dB while lowering the 20Hz frequency by 1.5dB in the “Bright” setting and in the opposite direction in the “Dark”.
