The Elysia Xfilter 500 is a true stereo, 2-slot 500-series four-band EQ module designed to deliver the stunning and expensive sound of class A EQ.
The Elysia Xfilter 500 uses a complete Class A topology ensuring no crossover distortion for an exceptionally transparent, wide and open sounding EQ with an impressive punch and no degradation of the original source. In addition, the Xfilter 500 uses custom discrete input and output stages inspired by Elysia's Alpha compressor. Integrated Burr-Brown OPA Op-amps are used in the filter stages ensuring a pristine sound.
Unlike most analogue EQs, the Xfilter 500 has been designed for true-stereo operation and as such all the controls affect both channels. To achieve this, Elysia uses computer-selected dual and quad layer pots and special low tolerance caps.
Extremely flexible, this Class A EQ features high and low shelf bands, two mid peak filters with wide and narrow Q as well as passive LC stages with shielded coils to deliver a gorgeous and clean top end. Both the high and low shelves can be switched to high and low cut filters with 12dB per octave and an additional resonance peak at the knee frequency creating some very flexible and useful filter curves. For example it can be used on the low-end to obtain a clean and punchy sound, but by working with the resonance, it is possible to stretch the low-end information due to longer post oscillation time caused by the resonance. Used on high frequency, the resonance is capable of accentuating certain frequencies without unwanted harshness. The mid peak filters feature a wide (Q 0.5) or narrow Q (Q 1.0) settings based on proportional Q principle. These choices result in the Xfilter 500 to always sound extremely musical.
In addition, the Elysia Xfilter500 features an additional passive high-band delivering the beautiful sheen that only passive EQs deliver. As a result the Xfilter is capable of delivering a smooth, open top end. The LC filter is based around a capacitor and a coil for each channel but unlike most shelving designs features a slight resonance peak at 12kHz falling from 17kHz onwards.
The Elysia Xfilter 500 delivers the expensive and pristine sound of superior boutique EQ at a fraction of the price.
