The elysia xfilter is a true stereo equalizer with at its core the same Class-A circuitry and EQ curves of their highly regarded MuseQ, all in a 1U, 19" rack.
The xfilter by elysia is extremely flexible and features both high and low shelf bands with switchable high and low cut filters with resonance control, two mid peak filters with selectable wide or narrow Q, and passive LC stages for beautiful high frequencies. As a result, the xfilter delivers a beautifully open sound with superior transient detail and solid low-mid punch.
Using a 100% class A topology, with discrete input, output and mix stages, ensure a truly transparent and open sound with no degradation of the original source. In addition, the xfilter uses the same custom discrete input and output stages as on their Alpha mastering compressor. The filter stages use Burr-Brown OPA op-amps which have been designed especially to work in pristine audio circuitry.
Being a true-stereo EQ, each control will affect both channels automatically. To achieve this, the xfilter uses computer-selected dual and quad layer pots and special low tolerance caps. In addition, stepped controllers have been installed throughout offering 41 steps for truly precise settings and easy recall. As a result the Xfilter is ideal on the stereo buss channel or in mastering applications.
Although the xfilter offers two Q modes, it doesn't allow for extremely narrow Q, leaving digital EQs to do all the notching. Instead, the xfilter focuses on musicality and only offers Q values of 0.5 in wide mode and 1.0 in narrow mode, using proportional Q principles. The addition of a 'Passive Massage' band at the top end delivers the beautiful and magic top end only passive EQ designs can provide. The Xfilter uses a fixed LC filter with a peak at 12kHz before decreasing at 17kHz.
