The Golden Age Premier GA-47 Extended Large Diaphragm condenser microphone is designed for professionals seeking exceptional sound quality and added versatility. Building upon the success of the Golden Age Premier GA-47, the GA-47 Extended introduces a removable capsule head, allowing users to interchange vintage U47 heads or Golden Age Project (GAP) heads on the GA-47 Extended or a vintage U47.

In addition, this microphone features a polar pattern switch conveniently located on the front below the grille and an aviation-style cable socket that adds to its vintage appeal.

The standard capsule head for the GA-47 Extended is the GA-47 Extended HV, which utilises an M7/K47-style vintage capsule (model no. S47d). This capsule imparts a darker tone, providing a sound similar to our standard GA-47 model. Alternatively, the GA-47 Extended HM modern capsule head (model no. D35d) can be selected, featuring a brighter and more contemporary tone. Both capsule heads can be included with the GA-47 Extended for an additional cost.

The microphone body is constructed with brass, and the grille, a crucial component affecting sound character, closely resembles that of the U47, maintaining authenticity and performance.

A meticulous evaluation process takes place for each production run of GA-47 capsule heads to ensure consistency across units. Approximately four times the required capsules are assessed to select those that meet strict tolerances. The sensitivity of the front and back sides of the capsules differs by no more than 0.3 dB, while the sensitivity between different capsules differs by no more than 0.5 dB. This attention to manufacturing tolerance results in excellent consistency among different GA-47 Extended units.

The dual-sided capsules offer cardioid and omni polar patterns, enhancing the versatility of the GA-47 Extended.

The GA-47 Extended employs a NOS Telefunken 800 series super low noise pentode tube connected in triode mode to reduce distortion and noise. This modern glass derivative of the VF14M tube used in the vintage U47 ensures superb performance.

The output transformer of the GA-47 Extended is specifically designed with a 6.5:1 dual bobbin transformer by a reputable transformer factory. It accurately replicates the BV8 transformer found in the vintage U47, incorporating high-quality core materials.

The microphone utilises high-quality components such as the SOLEN coupling capacitor from France. This axial capacitor, made from MKP material with copper pins, delivers a delicate, full sound and a wide frequency response. Additionally, SIEMENS' low-loss polystyrene film capacitors and ALLEN BRADLEY carbon film resistors from the USA, known for their vintage and warm sound, are employed.

Internally, the electronic circuit features point-to-point wiring, with only the ground connections utilising a circuit board. Teflon-insulated, silver-plated copper wire is used for internal connections, ensuring optimal signal integrity.

The vintage-style power supply PSU incorporates a high-power R-style transformer with low noise levels and minimal stray fields. High-quality electrolytic capacitors are employed for superior audio performance. The filament voltage undergoes dual-stage filtering, while the high voltage is precisely filtered and stabilized using a Telefunken semiconductor zener diode. Additionally, a ground lift switch is included to address mains ground loop noise issues, and a -10 dB PAD switch is available on the GA-47 Extended power supply for recording high SPL instruments such as kick drums.

The mic cable is specially crafted, featuring 4n pure oxygen-free copper, Teflon insulation, tin foil, and a high-density braided kitmesh shield. This cable design ensures a transparent and smooth sound transmission.

The GA-47 Extended is delivered in a tweed-style flight case, complete with a power supply, cable, shock mount, and a solid wood box for the microphone, providing reliable protection and convenient storage.
