The Josephson C705 is a FET large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid polar pattern.
The Josephson C705 uses a single diaphragm cardioid capsule derived from the C715. The capsule uses a 5-micron gold-metallised diaphragm and boasts acoustic ports to create its cardioid polar pattern which provides improved directionality at low frequencies. The capsule provides a smooth and airy high end with enhanced proximity effect characteristic of single-diaphragm microphones.
It also features the same discrete cascode input circuit and the symmetrical balanced transformerless output circuit of the 716 which is used for buffering the capsule as well as converting the impedance. As a result of its low impedance, the C705 works with a great range of preamps and input stages.
The C705 uses a ferric nitro-carburised steel case with a unique offset grille support structure providing a robust housing for the electronics as well as greatly minimising internal reflections causing comb filtering and resonance. Furthermore, the entire capsule is internally shock-mounted allowing the microphone to be attached directly to a mic stand with its yoke mount. Unlike other Josephson’s microphones, the C705 hosts the output connector directly on the microphone body.
In use, the Josephson C705 offers a great tone that provides range tonal range for vocals without sibilance. It also works great on instruments, capturing a lot of detail without the harshness heard on typical large-diaphragm microphones.
