The Knif Audio Soma is a dual-channel mastering passive EQ with built-in Mid/Side Matrix and Low- and high-pass filters, designed to offer actual flawless sonic performance.
The Knif Audio Soma uses an entirely passive circuit. Still, unlike traditional passive designs, it offers real Q adjustments allowing the use of Soma for surgical applications as well as subtle tone shaping. To achieve this, the Soma uses logic circuits and subminiature relays with a 100 million operations rating.
The MS-matrix in the Soma is entirely passive and doesn’t add a single component in the signal path to preserve sonic integrity. The input and output transformers are wound multiple times in-house by Jonte Knif himself. These are switched locally with relays to deliver Mid/Side operations.
The filter section includes low- and high-pass filters with selectable frequency points. The low-pass filter can be used with a 6dB/oct slope on the side channel, allowing the Soma to be used as an elliptical filter.
A two-stage valve amplifier with a moderate amount of DC-coupled feedback handles make-up gain. Like all Knif Audio products, the Soma is built to last a lifetime with over-engineered specs with polypropylene filter caps individual discrete regulators for anode supplies, mu-shielded transformers and more to ensure ultimate sonic fidelity. Elma rotary switches, logic switches and collet knobs are used throughout.
