Versatile Recording Patterns
The Neumann U87 AI offers three switchable directional patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8, allowing for flexibility and precision in various recording scenarios.
This is the Neumann U87 + EA87 shockmount combined in a single package, in Black. The U87 is equipped with a large dual-diaphragm capsule with three directional patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-8. These are selectable with a switch below the head grille.
A 10 dB attenuation switch is located on the rear. It enables the microphone to handle sound pressure levels up to 127 dB without distortion. Furthermore, the low-frequency response can be reduced to compensate for proximity effect. The cardioid setting has a smooth frequency response at a distance of about 30cm to 40cm, whilst the figure-8 is very balanced at a distance of 15cm to 20cm.
The Neumann U87 has been the standard of the recording industry since 1967 and the letter A in the name indicates the most recent model generation, compared to the U87i microphones that were built between 1967 and 1986. The U87 is famous for its well-balanced characteristics with the current model yielding a 6dB improvement in signal-to-noise over its predecessor.
