The P-24 integrates two complete LDC microphone systems within a single body, featuring vertically stacked capsules with the upper capsule capable of rotating 180 degrees. This innovative arrangement allows users to easily configure the microphone for coincident stereo techniques such as X-Y, Mid-Side, and Blumlein. Each capsule offers nine selectable polar patterns controlled remotely via the microphone’s power supply, providing unmatched flexibility for various recording environments.
The P-24 employs two independent signal chains, each routed through high-impedance circuit boards and custom-designed output transformers. Both systems are powered by a single vintage 6072AM glass triode vacuum tube. The microphone’s dual-circuit configuration biases the tube grid differently, enhancing low-end frequency response, while grounding the tube anode differently to produce a smoother, fuller high-end.
To accommodate the stereo design, Peluso re-engineered key components. The power supply was redesigned to handle the unique demands of a stereo vacuum tube microphone. A custom 12-pin screw-on cable was developed to deliver power and signal while meeting the additional conductor requirements. Dual custom-wound T14/1 transformers ensure each signal retains clarity and warmth, delivering a high-fidelity audio experience.
