The Royer R-10 is a compact passive ribbon microphone designed to handle SPLs of up to 160dB at 1kHz and allow flexible unobtrusive positioning in studio and live applications.
The Royer R-10 uses a 2.5-micron aluminium ribbon element made using Royer’s patented corrugating process, protected by a 3-layer windscreen system to provide superior protection from air blasts and plosives as well as reduced proximity effect. The ribbon transducer is also internally shock-mounted to isolate the ribbon from shocks and vibration. The ribbon is also wired in a humbucking fashion to reject electromagnetically induced noise.
The R-10 also employs a custom transformer designed by David Royer for high overload threshold and minimised saturation at extremely high sound pressure levels. The R-10’s open grill design reduces standing waves and associated comb-filtering effects and ensures smooth frequency response and improved phase linearity.
The R-10 features Royer’s patented offset-ribbon design which offers higher SPL handling on the front of the microphone and a brighter response at the back, offering two tones out of a single microphone.
