The Schoeps CCM21 microphone has a directional pattern between omni and cardioid. Combining both the uses of cardioid with those of the omni has resulted in a pickup pattern that blends the two sets of characteristics in a useful way. It has a fuller and more extended frequency response that a cardioid and less proximity effect while attenuating side and rear-incident sound less that a cardioid.
