The Avid HD I/O 16x16 Digital is a low-noise, low-latency digital interface for use with Pro Tools HD Systems. As a successor to the venerable Digidesign HD 192 I/O, the Avid HD I/O 16x16 Digital offers better quality sound, lower latency and excellent noise figures following a complete interior re-design.
It's an audio interface in its initial form, allowing easy connection of digital I/Os with your Pro Tools HDX or Pro Tools HD|Native - but by keeping two bays blank on the rear panel of the HD I/O 16x16 Digital, Avid has left room for you to kit the unit out as you see fit. You can add more analogue or more digital cards - so whether you are sending out to a digital or analogue mixer, or back from either, you can insert up to two more cards to further expand your capabilities.
You also have the option of adding further I/Os through the S/PDIF, ADAT and Optical sockets on the rear panel, too. With 16 channels of AES/EBU I/O, 16 channels of T/DIF I/O and 16 channels of ADAT I/O fitted as standard, that's quite a lot to be getting on with. Ideal for busy post-houses and digital console studios, the Avid HD I/O 16x16 Digital also has a useful soft-knee limiter on the input to catch any stray transients that try to get away.
