The Hazelrigg Industries DLC is a 500 Series EQ inspired by the renowned VLC and built with shared components such as hand-wound inductors and premium filter capacitors.
DLC Circuit Overview
The DLC draws its design from the passive equaliser circuit found in the Hazelrigg Industries VLC, originally based on the D.W. Fearn VT-5. It incorporates the same high-grade filter capacitors and hand-wound inductors as the VLC but features a slightly different audio path. The input stage utilises the audio circuit from the D.W. Fearn VT-2, while the output employs a low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) high-gain solid-state amplifier for superior sound fidelity. The DLC, like the VLC, integrates transformers at both the input and output stages to ensure signal integrity.
Boost and Cut Controls
The DLC allows users to boost or cut frequencies using dedicated controls. Each knob corresponds to a specific frequency band, with high and low-frequency options selectable via the switches on the right. Turning the knob fully counter-clockwise sets the signal to flat, meaning no equalisation is applied.
Frequency Selection
Each boost and cut knob pairs with a frequency selector, allowing users to choose between high and low-frequency ranges.
True Bypass
The DLC features a true bypass circuit, meaning the audio signal remains unaffected when the equaliser is disengaged, maintaining pristine sound quality.
Complex Equalisation Curves
By adjusting the boost and cut controls simultaneously, users can create intricate equalisation curves. For a balanced sound, try increasing all knobs except the bass boost, setting the frequencies as needed, and then raising the bass boost to achieve optimal tonal balance.
