The Royer R-122 Live is a version of the powered R-122 optimised for live applications with a thicker ribbon element and greater durability, increased sensitivity and SPL handling.
The Royer R-122 Live uses an active circuit based around a toroidal transformer designed by Royer to deliver faster transient response. As a result, the R-122 Live delivers the same output level that of powered condenser microphones but with the smooth and realistic tone only achievable with ribbon microphones.
The thicker 4-micron ribbon element employed ensures greater durability but with a slight reduction in high-frequency response. This smooth frequency response, helps to remove the harshness and shrill top end of live guitars and brass, often with less need of EQ.
The R122 Live boasts a switchable -15dB located before its electronics, avoiding headroom related distortion and preamp overload, even on the loudest sources. Furthermore, it also includes a 6dB/oct high-pass filter at 100Hz designed to reduce proximity effect and bass.
The Bi-polar (figure-of-eight) polar pattern provides effective control of bleed on stage thanks to its strong off-axis rejection including sides, top and bottom, offering powerful isolation.
The microphone is backed with Royer’s lifetime warranty and offers the first re-ribboning free of charge.
Royer R-122 Live Main Features:
Phantom powered circuitry provides high output and impedance matching
-15 dB pad before the mic’s electronics gives more headroom when activated.
Bass cut filter reduces proximity effect and bass below 100 Hz when activated
High SPL Capabilities
No distortion up to maximum SPL rating
Extremely low residual noise
Ribbon element is not affected by heat or humidity
Absence of high-frequency phase distortion
Equal sensitivity from front or back of the ribbon element
Consistent frequency response regardless of distance
Rear-side of mic records slightly brighter when three feet or closer to sound sources
