Pro Tools Carbon and Pro Tools Ultimate software used in the world’s most acclaimed studios allows its custom-designed FPGA and eight HDX DSPs to achieve remarkable sub-1 ms recording latency. The combination of HDX DSP and your computer means you can run big, plugin-heavy tracking or mixing session easily.

The Avid Pro Tools Carbon is a complete HDX recording system for Mac with 25x34 channels of I/O including eight preamps (4 with variable impedance), eight analogue outs, a stereo monitor output, four headphone outs, two hi-z inputs (variable impedance), ADAT, built-in talkback, and monitor control.

The Avid Pro Tools Carbon connects to your computer or network via AVB (ethernet) and can reroute tracks offload some processing directly onto the built-in DSP without needing an external HDX DSP card. It provides an ideal all-in-one portable recording setup, giving you the same low-latency performance of Pro Tools’ Flagship HDX system in a convenient 1U package.

Includes Pro Tools | Ultimate Software

Pro Tools | Carbon includes a Pro Tools | Ultimate Perpetual license with 1-year of updates (including the Avid Complete Plugin bundle), and the Carbon Premium Plugin Bundle. Pro Tools Carbon includes the Avid Complete Plugin bundle, as well as seven software instruments and an Avid Pro Tools licence. Ultimate licence owners will receive an additional year of updates included in the price.

    Built-in HDX performance

The Pro Tools | Carbon also includes 8 HDX DSP processors 9 TI DSP chips offering built-in HDX operation.

Used in combination with Pro Tools | Studio or Pro Tools | Ultimate (Perpetual license included) Pro Tools 2020.11, it allows you to record with sub 1ms latency, even with AAX DSP plugins engaged on the record track. offload locally processed channels onto the HDX chips allowing to increase channel counts and processing power without the need for a separate HDX card. Pro Tools Hybrid Engine allows a user to simply press a switch that routes a track directly to your preferred output with minimal latency, no matter how busy your mix is.

    Sound quality

Pro Tools | Carbon captures full 32-bit audio right at the converters to give you the maximum dynamic range throughout the entire system. Plus, Carbon’s low-noise mic preamps have variable impedance, which lets you subtly change the tone of your mics. Now, you can record knowing that you are capturing every bit of goodness you hear in the room. With multiple ADCs applied to each input and industry-leading double-precision clocking, you’ll hear and feel every nuance in your recordings.

    Surround Sound

From Pro Tools 2023.6, Carbon supports monitoring for the following formats: 5.1 and 7.1 for stereo, and 5.1.4 and 7.1.2 for Dolby Atmos.

    Audio Video Bridge

The Avid Pro Tools Carbon uses the Audio Video Bridge (AVB) protocol to connect to your system via ethernet instead of Avid’s usual Mini DigiLink connectors.

The AVB protocol ensures low latency and superior synchronisation of your data with data prioritisation to ensure no data loss during transfer.

Using the years of experience gained using the AVB protocol on their Venue range of live consoles, Avid now brings this technology to the studio.

    Scalable System Expansion

Expand your I/O with up to two Pro Tools | Carbon Pre interfaces via AVB, enabling up to 24 mic/line inputs and 24 line outputs.
