Unpredictable Sound Character
Experience the original Fuzz Factory's chaotic self-oscillation and interactive response, perfectly translated into a Eurorack format for limitless sonic exploration.
The ZVEX Fuzz Factory Eurorack Module is a 14HP analogue fuzz and distortion processor for Eurorack systems that delivers voltage-controlled gating, compression, drive, and stability with selectable input range settings of 0dB, -20dB, and -40dB, designed to recreate the original pedal’s chaotic self-oscillation and interactive response at modular signal levels.
ZVEX engineered this module to translate the unpredictable behaviour of the original Fuzz Factory pedal into a Eurorack format without compromise. The inclusion of a three-position input range switch allows accurate gain staging across modular, line, and instrument-level signals, ensuring consistent performance regardless of source. Input Level and Input Impedance controls extend compatibility further, allowing precise matching with oscillators, drum modules, and external gear while preserving tonal integrity.
The module retains the defining characteristics of the original circuit, including aggressive gating, dynamic compression, and extreme gain staging. The Gate control shapes noise suppression and sputtering decay, enabling anything from tight rhythmic chopping to abrupt signal cut-off. Comp adjusts the compression response, influencing sustain and harmonic density. Drive governs the intensity of distortion, pushing the circuit from subtle saturation into destructive fuzz textures. Stab directly affects circuit stability, introducing voltage starvation effects that produce oscillation, pitch interaction, and unpredictable sonic artefacts.
ZVEX enhances the original design with full CV control over all primary parameters. Gate, Comp, Drive, and Stab each accept modulation sources, enabling dynamic shifts in distortion character across time. Additional parameters such as Input Level, Input Impedance, Fatness, and Dry/Wet Mix also feature dedicated CV inputs, transforming the module into a highly responsive sound design tool. Fatness increases low-frequency emphasis, reinforcing bass content and adding weight to thinner signals, while Dry/Wet Mix enables parallel processing within the module, preserving transient detail alongside heavily processed tones.
The interaction between controls creates a complex, non-linear response that encourages experimentation. Self-oscillation emerges through careful adjustment of Stab and Drive, allowing the module to function as both an effect and a sound source. The circuit reacts sensitively to input dynamics and control voltage modulation, producing evolving textures that range from velcro-like tearing fuzz to unstable feedback and tonal collapse.
The module occupies 14HP with a shallow depth of 26mm, making it suitable for compact systems. It operates on standard Eurorack power requirements, drawing +80mA from the +12V rail and 40mA from the -12V rail. The design prioritises stability within modular environments while preserving the erratic character that defines the Fuzz Factory lineage.
