"In Studio" Video | with AEA Mics

In our second "In Studio" video series, Paul, Tom and myself decided to take a selection of AEA Ribbon microphones and head to the wonderful Masterchord Studios in North London to record their Steinway Model D Concert Grand Piano. We decided to record a single Piano performance tracked through multiple microphones at the same time, allowing comparison between the tonal varieties on offer from AEA. The mics and equipment used:

• AEA KU4 - Recorded through the AEA TRP mic preamp

• AEA R88mkII - Recorded through the AEA TRP mic preamp

• AEA N22 Nuvo Series x 2 - Recorded through the Grace Design M201 mic preamp

• AEA N8 Nuvo Series x 2 - Recorded through the Neumann D46 500 Series mic preamp

By focusing on careful mic placement, this allowed us to partner mic preamps that were musical, but also transparent, allowing the richness, detail and character of each AEA microphone to be captured in full. The Piano was recorded at 24bit 192kHz using AVID i/o converters and no Compression or EQ was used on any of the examples.
