Avalon builds the U5 around a high-voltage Class A, fully discrete topology that provides exceptional clarity, musical detail and extended frequency response from 5Hz to 100kHz at ±0.5dB. This pure analogue design offers extremely low noise at -100dBu, high headroom with up to +30dBu output level and very low distortion, ensuring consistent sonic authority whether in a live rig or a studio chain.
Tone Shaping and Headroom
The U5 features a variable-gain circuit with up to +30dB of clean amplification and a six-position passive tone selector. Each curve enhances harmonic richness, delivering body to bass instruments and smooth presence to acoustic sources. A high-cut filter rolls off extreme high-frequency content at 8kHz to remove unwanted noise, while an active signal LED offers visual level monitoring.
Connectivity and Routing Versatility
Avalon equips the U5 with dual balanced XLR outputs for microphone and line-level routing, alongside a dedicated headphone amplifier output for direct monitoring. A high-power speaker input handles amplifier outputs up to 400 watts, allowing the unit to capture the sound of an amp power stage. A ground-lift switch eliminates hum caused by ground loops, and an active-to-thru selector provides isolated routing flexibility.
Build and Power
