Classic Sound, Modern Convenience
Experience the rich, musical character of classic passive equalisation combined with the speed and accuracy of modern digital control for seamless mastering and mixing.
The Bettermaker Passive Equalizer is a stereo and dual mono mastering equaliser that combines a 100% analogue passive EQ signal path with advanced digital control, DAW automation, instant recall, snapshot management, and precise stereo linking, delivering the musical character of classic passive equalisation alongside modern workflow enhancements in a compact 1U format.
The Bettermaker Passive Equalizer builds upon the renowned passive equaliser designs that engineers value for their smooth, musical tonal shaping. It retains a fully analogue audio signal path while integrating comprehensive digital control through a dedicated plugin. This approach delivers the sonic benefits of classic passive equalisation while providing the speed, accuracy, and convenience required in modern mastering, mixing, and production environments.
The new 1U chassis design makes the unit ideal for multi-bus processing systems, allowing multiple units to fit efficiently into professional studio racks without sacrificing functionality or accessibility.
The audio signal remains entirely analogue throughout the processing chain. The equaliser handles audio with exceptional transparency, low distortion, and wide bandwidth, preserving source integrity while allowing significant tonal shaping. The unit achieves a frequency response from 7 Hz to 30 kHz and maintains frequency flatness within ±0.2 dB across the audible spectrum.
High headroom supports demanding professional workflows, with a maximum input level of +24 dBu and a maximum output level of +27 dBu. Low THD and noise figures ensure clean, accurate processing suitable for mastering applications.
The equalisation section offers the broad, musical curves associated with passive EQ designs while extending functionality beyond traditional implementations.
The low-frequency section provides selectable boost and cut frequencies at 20, 30, 60, and 100 Hz. Engineers can apply up to 15 dB of boost and 16 dB of cut for precise low-end enhancement, tightening, or weight adjustment.
The high-frequency boost section extends beyond conventional passive equaliser designs by including dedicated air bands at 20 kHz and 28 kHz. These additional frequencies allow engineers to introduce openness, detail, and spaciousness without introducing harshness. Additional boost frequencies include 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16 kHz.
The high-frequency attenuation section offers selectable frequencies at 5, 10, and 20 kHz, enabling controlled top-end shaping and smoothing when required.
A newly developed plugin provides complete control over all hardware parameters directly from the DAW. Engineers can adjust settings remotely, automate parameters, save sessions, and instantly recall previous configurations.
The plugin includes dedicated input and output metering for accurate level monitoring during operation. Fast snapshot functionality enables rapid comparison between settings and accelerates workflow during mastering and mix evaluation.
Because the hardware stores and recalls settings digitally, users can move between projects without manually documenting or recreating complex equaliser configurations.
The band audition function allows engineers to isolate and monitor individual frequency bands while making adjustments. This feature speeds up decision-making and improves accuracy when targeting specific frequency ranges.
The plugin also adds mastering-grade high-pass and low-pass digital filters, providing additional corrective and finishing tools without altering the analogue EQ circuitry itself.
The unit supports both stereo and dual mono operation. In stereo mode, digitally controlled parameter linking ensures precise channel matching and consistent imaging across the stereo field. A single control adjusts both channels simultaneously, improving efficiency and maintaining accuracy.
Dual mono mode enables independent processing of left and right channels, offering greater flexibility for corrective work, stereo enhancement, and creative processing applications.
An adjustable output gain stage provides ±8 dB of level control with extremely fine 0.1 dB resolution. This allows precise level matching during critical comparisons and mastering workflows, ensuring objective evaluation of EQ decisions.
USB connectivity enables seamless integration with both Mac and PC systems. Complete DAW automation support allows every available parameter to respond to automation data, making the unit suitable for dynamic processing applications and complex production environments.
Instant recall, repeatable adjustments, comprehensive automation, and rapid snapshot management transform a traditionally analogue process into a highly efficient modern workflow without compromising sonic quality.
