Versatile Input Options
The preamplifier accommodates mic, line, and instrument inputs with up to 66 dB gain, ensuring optimal signal clarity and flexibility for various recording sources.
The Drawmer 1979 is a 1U analogue channel strip that combines a transparent multi-input preamplifier, Lift dynamic gain module, fully variable three-band parametric equaliser, and soft-knee FET compressor with switchable processing order and true bypass for detailed tone shaping and controlled dynamics.
Drawmer integrates the character of its classic analogue designs with modern refinements, creating a channel strip that delivers detailed capture, real-time dynamic enhancement, musical equalisation, and warm compression in a compact rackmount format. The 1979 keeps the workflow fast and tactile while providing technical flexibility for high-end recording, tracking, and tone crafting.
The preamplifier offers mic, line, and instrument DI inputs with up to 66 dB of stepped gain, ensuring controlled gain staging and a clean signal path. Engineers adjust input impedance to match every microphone and optimise its tonal response, whether they work with ribbons, dynamics, or condensers. This stage provides transparent amplification, restores life to dull sources, and supports direct instrument connection without noise.
Lift, first developed for the Drawmer 1972, enhances low-level detail by raising signals that fall below 0 dB while leaving higher-level audio untouched. Engineers achieve natural loudness reduction without traditional compression artefacts because Lift reacts in real time with smooth, musical behaviour. It improves clarity in vocals, fingerpicked acoustic instruments, pianos, or ambient recordings and introduces no distortion or additional noise.
The fully variable three-band parametric equaliser provides ±12 dB of cut or boost with a switchable bandwidth control on the mid band. Engineers sculpt tone with precision, apply broad shaping for warmth or presence, or correct problematic resonances during tracking. The EQ responds smoothly, maintains musicality even with large adjustments, and works effectively before or after the compressor depending on the chosen signal path.
The soft-knee FET compressor brings the warm, musical behaviour associated with vintage Drawmer dynamics. It manages vocals with gentle levelling, adds mix cohesion when engineers use it more subtly, or produces assertive punch for drums, bass, and synthesizers. Its soft-knee response ensures natural gain reduction even at more extreme settings.
The final output section includes a wet/dry blend for parallel processing, enabling engineers to mix compressed or EQ-shaped tone with the dry signal for refined control. Output gain allows precise level matching into any interface or recording chain. A large illuminated VU meter displays level clearly, while a global bypass returns the signal to a direct preamplifier output for the cleanest possible path. The user chooses the compressor-EQ processing order to suit the programme material and workflow.
