Versatile Eight-Channel Connectivity
Expand your audio and CV output capabilities with eight impedance-balanced outputs, perfect for routing multitrack audio, external effects, and modular control from a single compact unit.
The Elektron Outbox 8 is an eight-channel audio and CV breakout box, USB audio interface and MIDI-to-CV converter with eight 1/4-inch impedance-balanced DC-coupled outputs, 48 kHz 32-bit D/A conversion, configurable ±5 V CV, USB-C connectivity and support for compatible Elektron and class-compliant USB devices.
Elektron designed the Outbox 8 to expand the physical output capabilities of compatible Elektron instruments, computers, tablets, phones and other class-compliant USB devices. Its eight 1/4-inch impedance-balanced, DC-coupled outputs can carry audio or CV in configurations that suit the connected hardware.
This flexible architecture allows the Outbox 8 to handle multitrack audio routing, external effects processing, hardware mixing and modular control from one compact unit. Each application can use the available outputs according to the capabilities of the connected device.
With compatible Elektron instruments, the Outbox 8 provides additional physical outputs for individual tracks, allowing engineers and performers to route sounds independently to external mixers, processors, effects and recording systems.
Digitakt II and Digitone I/II support configuration of the Outbox 8 outputs as individual mono channels or combined stereo pairs. This makes the unit suitable for workflows that require discrete processing alongside conventional stereo routing.
Compatibility varies across the Elektron range. Digitakt I/II, Digitone I/II/Keys, Syntakt, Analog Rytm MKII and Analog Four MKII support multitrack operation and in-device configuration, while several earlier Elektron instruments use the Outbox 8 Web App for setup. Other machines support two-track audio or MIDI-based functionality according to their individual USB capabilities.
The Outbox 8 also operates as a class-compliant eight-output USB audio interface. A computer, tablet or phone can route audio directly to its physical outputs, providing a compact way to send DAW channels to monitors, mixers, effects processors or other external hardware.
The converters operate at 48 kHz with 32-bit D/A conversion, providing a high-resolution output stage for studio, live and hybrid hardware workflows.
The Elektron Outbox 8 functions as a dedicated USB MIDI-to-CV converter, connecting MIDI sequencing and performance systems with modular and other voltage-controlled equipment.
Its outputs support grounded, pitch V/oct, pitch Hz/V, linear value, trig, gate and clock CV signal types. This range enables the Outbox 8 to handle melodic pitch sequencing, gates, triggers, modulation values and synchronisation.
Each CV output operates across a ±5 V range. Musicians can therefore use compatible Elektron hardware, DAWs and MIDI controllers to sequence modular equipment, control analogue synthesisers or synchronise external devices.
The Outbox 8 can combine USB audio routing with MIDI-to-CV conversion. A computer can send audio to external hardware while simultaneously transmitting MIDI data that the Outbox 8 converts into CV.
This integration makes the unit particularly useful in hybrid studios where DAWs, Elektron instruments, modular synthesisers, analogue equipment and external processing need to operate within one interconnected system.
Elektron provides direct in-device configuration for several compatible instruments. Supported machines can configure the Outbox 8 without requiring a separate computer or browser-based utility.
For other Elektron instruments and a wider selection of non-Elektron class-compliant devices, the Outbox 8 Web App provides configuration through a browser with Web MIDI support. Audio and MIDI compatibility depends on the connected manufacturer's implementation and firmware, so individual devices may support MIDI, audio or both.
Legacy Elektron hardware can also integrate with the Outbox 8 through MIDI. Octatrack MKI/MKII, Machinedrum SPS-1/VW and Monomachine support MIDI connectivity when paired with a suitable class-compliant DIN or TRS MIDI-to-USB interface.
The Outbox 8 features two USB-C connections. One provides 5 V power input, while the USB 2.0 High-Speed Type-C data port supports USB Power Delivery together with dual-role data and power functionality.
The unit requires 5 V at 0.5 A, or 2.5 W or higher. A front-panel status LED communicates connection and configuration information for quick visual monitoring.
At 176 mm wide, 90 mm deep and 28 mm high including its feet, the Outbox 8 occupies little space in desktop, modular and performance systems. Its approximate 0.35 kg weight also makes it practical for portable rigs.
Elektron supplies the Outbox 8 with a quick guide and USB-C to USB-B cable and covers the unit with a three-year Elektron warranty.
