The Ex Machina Terra is a professional three‑way coaxial reference monitor that delivers ±1.5 dB frequency accuracy from 40 Hz to 30 kHz, ±15° phase coherence, and a 90° × 90° conical coverage pattern, all housed in a monocoque aluminium cabinet and powered by integrated Hypex NcoreX amplification.

Overview

Ex Machina designs the Terra as a standalone 2.2 monitoring system that engineers can rely on for accurate translation in any studio environment. The monitor combines a classic coaxial architecture with modern digital crossovers, over‑the‑air firmware updates, and a pure‑monitoring DSP that linearises the speaker rather than correcting the room.

Key Features

The monitor incorporates a true point‑source design with an 18 cm coaxial mid/tweeter and an 18 cm PuriFi woofer, delivering a seamless blend across the audible spectrum. Zero‑phase LR4 digital crossovers sit at 200 Hz and 2 kHz, eliminating time‑domain smearing and preserving transient detail. An ADSP‑21569 SHARC+ DSP, assisted by an ESP32 co‑processor, drives the system and enables individual driver‑level calibration before each unit leaves the factory. Firmware and calibration data update wirelessly via Wi‑Fi, allowing performance to improve as Ex Machina refines its measurement models.

Technical Highlights

The monitor’s aluminium extrusion chassis behaves acoustically inert, preventing resonance and colouration. Engineers calibrate each driver independently, ensuring the crossover network aligns perfectly in time. Integrated Hypex NcoreX amplification supplies ample headroom, while connectivity options include XLR, AES/EBU, and an optional Dante Pro S1 interface for networked audio environments.

System Integration & Calibration

Ex Machina measures and calibrates every Terra at the driver level, then uploads the data to the unit’s DSP. The zero‑phase crossovers guarantee perfect time alignment, so transients remain crisp and imaging stays precise across the entire pass‑band. Over‑the‑air updates let the monitor adopt newer measurement algorithms without physical service visits.
