Break on Through builds on a legendary microphone limiter circuit originally designed for level control but later adopted and exploited by record producers to create distinctive distortion effects, especially on drums and percussion. DACS has refined and expanded this circuit into a versatile analogue distortion block that functions as both limiter and sound-shaping tool.

Advanced Control and Modulation

The unit provides input gain and threshold adjustment, allowing the user to set the distortion onset and intensity. A CV input linked to the threshold opens detailed control, enabling synchronisation with oscillators, envelopes, or other modulation sources. The opto-coupled CV ensures smooth, stable response while maintaining DC coupling for both subsonic and audio frequency modulation.
