Exceptional Sound Clarity
Experience reference-grade transparency that reveals the true capabilities of high-end cartridges, ensuring every detail of your music is heard with stunning clarity.
Knif Audio Aski is a high-precision standalone phono preamplifier designed for both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, combining a hybrid discrete and IC front end with exceptionally wide gain range, exacting RIAA accuracy and extremely low noise.
Knif Aski uses a cascode discrete JFET stage that feeds a modern OPA828 op amp so the input remains exceptionally linear, fast and quiet. The MC input benefits from four parallel LSK389 JFETs, which reduce noise density and give cartridges with extremely low output levels a clean, stable interface. The discrete JFET architecture also limits non-linearity in the input capacitance, which ensures accurate moving-magnet performance and consistent frequency response. Engineers who require transparency at high headroom levels gain a front end that maintains bandwidth and linearity even under challenging signal conditions.
The RIAA network operates with very high accuracy so the system retrieves programme material with precise tonal balance. The user selects from multiple input load conditions on both MM and MC stages, which allows exact matching to cartridge impedance and sonic character. This adjustability gives a controlled interface for demanding cartridges and keeps noise and frequency shaping firmly predictable.
The unit offers a wide range of gain settings so low-output MC cartridges or high-output MM designs both achieve ideal operating level. The operator activates a 20 Hz high-pass filter when required to control infrasonic energy, protect downstream monitors and preserve headroom for musical content. This filtering operates cleanly and does not disturb the audible spectrum.
Knif Aski accepts power either from an external supply or directly from the auxiliary output on the Knif Mastering Controller power supply, which provides flexible studio configuration. The power architecture ensures the discrete front end, op amp stage and equalisation network receive stable rails so the unit maintains its near-immeasurable distortion and very low self-noise.
Knif Aski delivers extremely high accuracy, exceptional headroom and noise levels approaching the limits of measurement. The overall design draws on classic analogue JFET input philosophies while adopting contemporary ultra-low-noise components, resulting in a modern phono stage with reference-grade transparency.
