**Versatile Synthesis Options**
The Korg Opsix MKII uses an altered FM synthesis engine that combines six synthesis types including traditional FM, waveshaping, and analogue modeling, offering unparalleled sound design flexibility.
The Korg Opsix MKII Digital Altered FM Synthesizer is a 37-key velocity and release-velocity sensitive instrument with 64-voice polyphony, 40 algorithms, six-operator structure, 30 studio-grade effects, advanced modulation routing, step and motion sequencers, and an OLED display for instant sound-shaping feedback.
At the core of the Opsix MKII is Korg’s altered FM engine, expanding classic FM synthesis into a versatile platform with subtractive, semi-modular, analogue modelling, waveshaping, additive and traditional FM modes. With six operators controlled via dedicated faders and knobs, sound creation becomes intuitive and hands-on. Users can choose from 40 preset algorithms or design unique structures, unlocking everything from crystalline bells to complex evolving textures.
The Opsix MKII offers up to 64 simultaneous voices, providing richer layers and more intricate harmonies than its predecessor. A large OLED display ensures clear visual feedback during programming, while dedicated data entry knobs streamline parameter editing. The randomisation function instantly generates fresh sonic material, inspiring experimentation.
In addition to FM-based synthesis, the Opsix MKII includes analogue-style filter models such as the MS-20’s resonant low-pass/high-pass circuit and the PolySix’s warm low-pass filter. Eleven filter types in total, with two- and four-pole variations, provide deep tonal shaping. Built-in oscilloscope and spectrum analyser tools give real-time visualisation of sound design choices.
The integrated step sequencer supports up to 16 steps with six-note polyphony per step, including velocity, gate time and playback timing per note. A motion sequencer records up to six lanes of parameter automation, enabling evolving patterns and rhythmic shifts. An arpeggiator with seven modes adds further performance versatility.
Thirty onboard effects, including reverb, chorus, phaser, compressor and delay, can be layered to craft detailed soundscapes. These high-definition processors add polish and depth, ensuring the Opsix MKII works as effectively in a production studio as it does on stage.
Three envelopes, three LFOs, 21 oscillator waveforms, 23 LFO waveforms and 12 virtual patch routings deliver vast modulation possibilities. This flexibility allows subtle modulation for evolving pads or complex routing for experimental textures.
