Deep Bass Extension
Achieve low-frequency reproduction down to 24Hz, enhancing your monitoring system's capability for critical mixing and mastering with substantial low-end headroom and clarity.
The KS Digital B500-Reference is a professional dual 10-inch active bass extension for KS Digital A200mk2, A500 and C100 monitoring systems, combining 1,000W RMS amplification, FPGA-based 24-bit FIRTEC processing, a 24Hz low-frequency extension and integrated crossover, EQ, delay and gain control for high-SPL studio monitoring.
The KS Digital B500-Reference extends compatible KS Digital monitoring systems into the lowest octave while maintaining the speed, accuracy and control required for critical mixing and mastering. Rather than functioning as a conventional standalone studio subwoofer, the B500-Reference integrates with the main monitors to create a larger full-range monitoring system with coordinated crossover, timing and frequency-response management.
KS Digital equips the B500-Reference with two high-performance 10-inch woofers and 1,000W RMS amplification. This combination delivers substantial low-frequency headroom while extending the complete monitoring system down to 24Hz. Maximum system output exceeds 132dB peak per pair when the B500 operates with A500 monitors, making the system suitable for demanding professional control rooms where engineers need both deep bass extension and high monitoring levels.
KS Digital uses its FPGA-based FIRTEC processing architecture to control the B500-Reference and its integration with the main monitors. The system handles signal processing at 24-bit ADC/DAC resolution and manages the crossover, frequency-response correction and timing relationship between the bass extension and compatible satellite monitors.
This processing allows the B500-Reference to contribute low-frequency extension without compromising the phase and transient characteristics of the complete monitoring system. The DSP also linearises frequency response and provides the control required to adapt the system to different rooms and installation requirements.
An 80Hz Bessel-filtered crossover integrates the B500-Reference with compatible KS Digital monitors. The main monitor controls the B500 through its XLR sub output, allowing the bass extension and top monitor to operate together as a coordinated main monitoring system.
The B500-Reference supports the KS Digital A200mk2, A500 and C100, giving studios a practical upgrade path when greater low-frequency extension, output capability and headroom become necessary.
KS Digital provides extensive adjustment through the system's DSP. Engineers can configure six user EQs alongside high and low shelving filters, delay and gain controls. These tools allow the monitoring system to address room-related frequency problems, level differences and physical placement constraints.
Adjustable delay proves particularly useful when the B500-Reference cannot occupy the same acoustic plane as the main monitors. Correct delay settings compensate for the physical offset between the bass extension and satellites, helping their outputs arrive at the listening position coherently.
The optional KSD-RC remote control provides access to volume, delay, gain and six user EQ parameters through the main monitor, allowing engineers to optimise the complete system from the listening position.
Two specially developed 10-inch high-performance woofers provide the B500-Reference with the surface area and displacement required for controlled reproduction down to 24Hz. The design focuses on precise, tightly controlled bass rather than exaggerated low-frequency output, supporting critical assessment of kick drums, bass instruments, synthesiser fundamentals and sub-bass information.
The drivers operate inside a flow-optimised steel enclosure. KS Digital designed the cabinet and airflow system to minimise unwanted ventilation noise and maintain clean low-frequency reproduction at demanding playback levels.
Despite its considerable low-frequency capability, the B500-Reference measures 480 x 240 x 310mm and weighs 30kg. Its compact dimensions simplify integration beneath or alongside compatible monitors where larger conventional subwoofer cabinets could prove difficult to accommodate.
The steel construction provides a rigid platform for the dual-driver system while supporting the controlled, low-distortion performance expected from a professional main monitoring installation.
