Versatile Distortion Options
The Malcolm Toft PUNISHR offers Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, and Iron distortion types, each with individual controls, enabling a wide range of sonic textures from subtle enhancements to full-blown destruction.
The Malcolm Toft PUNISHR is a 500 Series Analogue Harmonic Distortion Module with Versatile Tonal Shaping Capabilities
The Malcolm Toft PUNISHR boasts three distinct distortion paths that can be seamlessly blended to craft a diverse array of sonic enhancements or annihilations. Harness the power of a two-band EQ, inspired by Malcolm Toft's iconic 1970s circuits, to sculpt your sound and position it seamlessly within your mix, before or after the three distortion paths.
With the ability to choose between Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, and Iron (transformer) distortion types, the PUNISHR offers an array of tools to make your source material stand out. Each distortion mode includes a dedicated IN control, allowing you to engage or bypass individual sections, providing insight into their unique contributions to the final sound. Additionally, each distortion element has dedicated level control for fine-tuning.
Contrary to its name, the PUNISHR is designed to unleash sonic chaos and breathe life and excitement into otherwise lacklustre sources. It excels at adding depth to overly compressed samples or lifeless recordings. Malcolm's 1970s-inspired two-band EQ imparts simple yet potent tone-shaping capabilities. Both shelf bands offer a single frequency point (100Hz/8kHz) and can be positioned before or after the distortion, enhancing the analogue distortion circuits within the unit. Furthermore, sweepable full-range high-pass and low-pass filters are on hand to help focus the distortion within your mix, alongside a versatile Wet/Dry mix control.
The PUNISHR showcases an impressive array of features within a single-slot 500 Series module with innovative functionality. Its unique SUM function enables all three distortions to be used simultaneously. Additionally, it features an automatic gain circuit that ensures a consistent output signal, even when applying substantial distortion.
A Versatile Workhorse This powerful unit is incredibly versatile, elevating the quality of drums, vocals, guitars, bass, synthesizers, or an entire mix. It injects energy and bite into software instruments and samples and excels during instrument tracking or track printing.
