The Rodec BUNK 01 - Pine / Red is a dual discrete phono and line preamplifier with analogue EQ, engineered for vinyl enthusiasts seeking precision sound, robust construction and flexible tonal control.
Dual Phono Architecture
The unit integrates two completely independent phono stages designed for moving magnet cartridges. The first is based on the MX180 circuit, delivering fast transient response and an assertive, punchy character ideal for club-oriented playback. The second is a newly developed discrete stage by Rodec, designed to produce a more open, spacious and detailed sound profile suitable for critical listening. Switching between stages is immediate, providing direct comparison or adaptation to different vinyl recordings.
Gain and Signal Handling
The phono preamp offers adjustable gain from 45 dB to 65 dB at 1 kHz, allowing precise level matching, particularly beneficial for low-output pressings. The line stage provides 0 dB to 20 dB of gain, maintaining headroom and consistent output across various sources. Input impedance is fixed at 47 kOhm with 200 pF capacitance, optimised for standard MM cartridges, while output impedance is set at 220 Ohms, suitable for integration with a wide range of amplification systems.
Current Feedback with Split RIAA Equalisation
The phono circuitry employs current feedback topology combined with split RIAA equalisation, delivering accurate frequency response with deviations limited to approximately 0.3 dB. The extended bandwidth of 9 Hz to 75 kHz ensures full low-frequency depth and detailed high-frequency performance without phase shift or tonal coloration.
Analogue EQ Derived from MX-18
A fully analogue, three-band EQ inspired by the MX-18 provides precise yet musical tone shaping. Unlike typical DJ-oriented kill EQs, this circuit offers ±12 dB adjustment at 100 Hz for bass, 1 kHz for presence and 10 kHz for treble. The EQ allows subtle correction or enhancement without compromising the integrity of the original recording.
Precision-Built Chassis
BUNK 01 features a 2 mm thick aluminium front panel finished in RAL9005 Jet Black, providing structural rigidity and aesthetic consistency. Solid metal rotary controls ensure precise user interaction with reliable tactile feedback. The compact dimensions of 95 mm by 85 mm by 210 mm and weight of 800 grams support convenient integration into existing setups.
Sustainable, Artisan Housing
The casing is constructed from solid, eco-certified bamboo, hand-finished by Belgian woodworker Eletta Daemen. This approach combines natural materials with functional design, offering durability and reduced environmental impact without compromising visual appeal.
MX Heritage, Modernised for Vinyl Culture
Drawing from Rodec’s MX180 legacy, which defined the sound and reliability of 1990s club installations, the BUNK 01 carries forward that philosophy in a precision tool tailored for modern vinyl playback. Clean circuit design, refined engineering and robust materials come together to deliver uncompromising sound with a distinctive analogue character.
The unit includes a dedicated external power supply and is optimised for output loads of 25 kOhm or higher, ensuring compatibility with professional and audiophile-grade equipment.
