Hybrid Performance for Studio and Stage

The MX Modular Hybrid Performance system combines four discrete mic-line preamps with musical EQs, ideal for capturing acoustic instruments or processing drum machines. Two dedicated slots with EQ and MS-20 style filters allow real-time sound sculpting, enabling dramatic alterations to stereo tracks from external gear or digital sources. Additionally, four stereo summing tracks enhance mixing capabilities, while the built-in effects engine expands creative possibilities. This hands-on system facilitates immediate sound manipulation, ensuring an intuitive workflow that blends analogue character with digital convenience.

The MX Modular is engineered for versatility, offering a fully modular design that adapts to various studio and performance requirements. All configurations include the core MX Modular unit, which features an 18 I/O AD/DA interface, a dual digital FX engine, and a comprehensive master section. Various configurations are available, catering to diverse user needs, from small production setups to expansive hybrid systems. Custom configurations allow precise tailoring to individual workflows, ensuring no two consoles are alike.

Designed to function as both a studio tracking and summing console or as a live performance centrepiece, the MX Modular is well-suited to electronic music producers, DJs, and live performers. Whether used in a synth-heavy setup with sequencers and bass guitars or as part of a DJ/producer rig integrating a computer, samplers, and vinyl records, this system provides the necessary flexibility for any creative environment.

Advanced Signal Processing and Modular Integration

The MX Modular supports the industry-standard 500 series format, offering 10 slots for 500 series modules. This allows users to customise their signal path by selecting Rodec’s own modules or integrating third-party options. Innovative stereo backplane cassettes convert two mono slots into a stereo slot, enabling seamless module stacking akin to digital plugins in a DAW. Each stereo backplane provides 22 HP of space, accommodating modules ranging from 6 to 10 units high.

The fader section offers extensive configuration options, with mono faders for individual tracks, stereo faders optimised for instruments or computer outputs, and dedicated DJ faders. Every music channel includes programmable mute and solo buttons, which can be assigned to recallable scenes, streamlining both studio production and live performance transitions.

USB Audio and Built-in Effects Engine

While analogue mixing remains at the core of the MX Modular, its integration with digital workflows is seamless. A high-quality 18-in/18-out AD/DA converter, powered by ESS technology, ensures ultra-low latency when streaming multi-channel audio to and from a computer via USB-C. This enables a hybrid setup, allowing real-time interaction between analogue hardware and digital production tools.

The master section includes a digital FX module equipped with Rodec-engineered delay and reverb algorithms. These effects are routed through AUX 1 and AUX 2, offering customisation with 99 user-programmable preset banks. External FX units can be integrated via analogue AUX send and return sockets, further expanding sonic capabilities.

Comprehensive Connectivity and Summing Options

The MX Modular Hybrid Performance system is built to accommodate demanding studio and live performance environments. Its 10-channel 500 series architecture is complemented by five stereo summing channels and four stereo return channels, providing extensive mixing capabilities. The 18-channel AD/DA converter features premium AKM ADCs and ESS DACs, ensuring pristine audio quality. Users can configure mono and stereo channels with independent controls, while each channel offers two stereo AUX sends and two stereo bus routings.

Each channel is equipped with an LED VU meter for precise level monitoring. Programmable mute and solo buttons can be assigned to groups, enabling instant recall during live performances. The fader section features short-throw Alps performance faders, ensuring smooth and responsive control. A crossfader is included for DJ-style mixing, while three analogue summing buses, including the master bus, provide extensive routing options.

With up to 28 channels of analogue summing, the MX Modular supports 18 USB or analogue inputs, an additional stereo external link input, two stereo AUX returns, and two stereo bus returns. Each 500 module slot has a dedicated insert, while the master section and buses feature additional stereo inserts for integrating outboard gear.

The master output is balanced, featuring discrete opamps and high-end Lundahl transformers with +28dBu headroom. A dedicated monitor output and a headphone section with independent level and cue/mix control offer precise monitoring options. Multiple MX Modular consoles can be linked together, ensuring synchronised audio, mute, and solo functions.
