The ML-2A expands Slate Digital’s established microphone modelling platform with improved analogue front-end circuitry, enhanced transient detail, increased dynamic range and greater stability across the cardioid pickup pattern. The hardware pairs with the VMS plug-in to allow engineers to audition, apply and blend classic and modern microphone models in real time, directly during tracking or later during mixdown without committing to a fixed sonic character at the recording stage.
The updated capsule and electronics improve accuracy across the audible spectrum and preserve the harmonic behaviour required for faithful model reproduction. This design unifies the tonal depth associated with classic microphones with modern component reliability and tighter manufacturing tolerances.
Studio-Grade Capture and Control
The ML-2A supports extremely high sound pressure levels and integrates a -20 dB pad that protects the input stage during close-miked drums, percussion, brass and amplified cabinets. An integrated 80 Hz high-pass filter with a 6 dB per octave slope reduces low-frequency rumble at the source, improving headroom and maintaining clarity in dense arrangements.
Slate Digital matches and calibrates every microphone pair at the factory and supplies a precision stereo mounting bar, enabling accurate stereo recording for overheads, piano, orchestral instruments and ambient capture in both studio and location environments.

The VMS plug-in unlocks an evolving catalogue of vintage, modern and creative microphone models, ranging from essential dynamic and ribbon designs to renowned small- and large-diaphragm condenser classics. Engineers can compare microphones instantly, blend characteristics between models and apply optional virtual preamp saturation to create a complete virtual front-end recording chain.
