The Sonarworks SoundID Reference Virtual Monitoring PRO is a high-resolution headphone-based monitoring system that replicates the exact acoustic behaviour of a studio or trusted listening environment by using personalised room measurements and advanced DSP processing.
SoundID Reference Virtual Monitoring PRO advances headphone monitoring by enabling users to capture and recreate the precise sound of a stereo room, car, or creative space through a custom binaural measurement process. It uses the SoundID USB in-ear binaural microphone to record the acoustic response of any stereo system and the user’s unique head-related transfer characteristics, then applies studio-grade DSP filters in the SoundID Reference plug-in or systemwide engine. Unlike generic virtual room systems, it delivers a measurement-driven, personal profile that translates between environments and reinforces existing monitoring habits rather than replacing them.
Users measure their room or reference environment using the supplied USB in-ear microphone, which records a true binaural profile with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz response. The measurement wizard guides placement and calibration with the selected over-ear headphones and ensures a precise, repeatable capture at 44.1 kHz. Users then save the completed profile for instant recall on future sessions.
Once captured, the monitoring profile loads into SoundID Reference and applies real-time processing with near-zero latency in plug-in mode and approximately 20 ms systemwide. The profile recreates the tonal balance, transient response, stereo image and spatial depth of the original monitoring system, enabling headphone work that aligns closely with reference speaker performance. Engineers can tweak the target curve for preference or translation checking.
Professionals take their studio response anywhere, maintaining mix consistency when travelling or working late. Freelancers can copy a client’s or supervisor’s room for alignment before delivery. Anyone can capture alternative rooms or vehicles for reliable translation checks. Once measured, users only need the software and the same pair of over-ear headphones to monitor in any location.
The package includes a licence for three seats, access to the measurement and playback engine, headphone calibration and Virtual Monitoring functions, and the SoundID USB binaural microphone with USB-C connectivity. Measurement requires macOS 11 or later or Windows 10 or later, an internet connection, a USB-C port and an interface with independent speaker and headphone outputs. Playback supports any modern sample rate from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz.
