Stereo Enhancement Technology

SPL BiG [Studio] increases the stereo image in a new analogue domain method that uses a unique difference-signal network and specialised summing stage. It processes a dedicated difference signal through an analogue filter set before reintegrating it, delivering expansive stereo width with precise mono compatibility and no phase issues or cancellations. The internal audio voltage of ±18V ensures exceptional headroom and pristine fidelity suited to mastering, mixing and sound-design environments.

Dynamic Range and Control

The Range control selects the specific frequency band to widen, allowing surgical enhancement of midrange air, upper presence or wide-band spaciousness. The Stage control then adjusts the perceived position of the chosen band, moving content forward for presence or backward for depth across the stereo field. The Bigness control increases the intensity of spatial effect, scaling subtle width enhancement to dramatic panoramic expansion without collapsing the centre image.

Tube Harmonic Enhancement

BiG [Studio] features a dedicated tube circuit designed to enrich tonal character and increase perceived density. When the Harmonics switch activates, the tubes enter the signal path and the Tube Harmonics control sets the level of harmonic energy, generating richer overtones for greater depth and musical sheen. The warm-up indication flashes until tube temperature reaches its optimum operating condition, ensuring stable sonic performance.

Low-End Extension

A bass switch applies a refined analogue low-frequency enhancement filter, influenced by the AirBass topology used in SPL’s IRON mastering compressor. This function reinforces bottom-end power and clarity, adding weight without clouding the stereo image or sacrificing mono integrity.

Connectivity and Build

The unit provides XLR and TRS inputs and outputs with gold-plated contacts and electronically balanced design at a +6dB nominal level. A rear-panel ground switch removes unwanted hum by decoupling internal ground from chassis ground. The black anodised 4mm aluminium front panel, precision-milled aluminium knobs and powder-coated steel chassis ensure longevity and professional reliability for high-duty studio environments.

Operation

A rear On switch activates the unit and illuminates the front-panel indicator when the circuit engages. Bypass disengages processing while retaining signal integrity.
