Flexible Mixing Options
The module allows for both stereo and mono inputs, enabling users to create custom mixing configurations tailored to their specific Eurorack setup needs.
The Tangelo Audio Link Eurorack Module is a 1U Intellijel-format, all-analogue, chainable stereo and mono Eurorack mixer channel with independent level control, sine/cosine panning, LED signal and clipping metering, protected low-impedance outputs and a high-fidelity Texas Instruments OPA1679 audio path.
Tangelo Audio designed the Link as a modular building block for creating a custom Eurorack mixer. Each Link handles one stereo or mono source, while its chainable architecture allows several modules to combine into a larger mixing system. This approach lets a Eurorack system scale its mixer capacity according to the number of sources rather than dedicating rack space to unused channels.
The module uses the compact 1U Intellijel format, making it particularly suitable for cases with dedicated 1U rows. It requires a compatible Eurorack enclosure and does not support the alternative Pulp Logic 1U format.
The Link accommodates both stereo and mono signals through its left and right inputs. For a mono source, connecting the signal to the left input while leaving the right input disconnected allows the PAN control to position that signal across the stereo field.
Connecting separate left and right signals configures the channel for stereo operation. In this configuration, the PAN control adjusts the balance of the stereo source.
Tangelo Audio implements a sine/cosine panning characteristic, which provides a natural transition across the stereo image and maintains a musically useful relationship between the left and right output levels throughout the control range.
Each Link provides a single stereo or mono mixer channel and can connect with additional Link modules to create a larger mixer. Users can therefore configure a system around the precise number of channels their Eurorack setup requires and expand it later as the system develops.
This modular architecture makes the Link suitable for compact systems as well as larger Eurorack instruments that require flexible submixing and routing. Tangelo Audio also applies the underlying technology to the larger 3U Chain module for systems that favour conventional 3U Eurorack space.
The Link provides independent volume control for its connected source. Its logarithmic attenuation range extends from 0 dB to -60 dB, giving the channel a response suited to practical audio mixing rather than a simple linear level adjustment.
The combination of dedicated level and pan controls allows each Link to function as an individual mixer channel while remaining part of a larger chained configuration.
Tangelo Audio uses a deliberately lean all-analogue audio path to minimise unwanted distortion and preserve signal integrity. At the centre of the circuit sits a Texas Instruments OPA1679 audio operational amplifier, selected to provide high-fidelity audio performance and increased headroom.
The design incorporates high-quality components throughout the signal path. Same Sky audio jacks provide secure connections with minimal mechanical movement and carry ratings for thousands of mating cycles, supporting regular patching in studio and performance systems.
The Link integrates ESD and surge protection on its inputs, helping protect the circuitry against electrical events associated with regular patching and system use.
Its low-impedance outputs also incorporate overload protection. This design combines robust interfacing with the clean signal path expected from a dedicated Eurorack audio mixer.
Four LEDs provide immediate visual feedback. Two green LEDs indicate the incoming signal levels for the left and right channels, while two red LEDs indicate clipping at the module's output.
Tangelo Audio uses large capacitors on the meter power rails to reduce crosstalk between the signal and clipping meters and the main audio path. This approach allows the metering circuitry to provide useful visual information without unnecessarily compromising audio performance.
