The TK Audio TK-lizer 3 is a stereo analogue mastering and mix bus EQ that combines three Baxandall-based bands, fully stepped controls, switchable low and high shelving, a twelve-frequency high-pass filter and integrated Mid/Side processing for precise, musical tone shaping.

Building on the TK-lizer 2, the TK-lizer 3 retains the established three-band layout, recallable settings and independent Mid/Side control while introducing new input and output circuits, revised EQ circuitry for improved low and high-frequency response, and an updated M/S circuit for greater channel separation. Bakelite knobs and toggle switches complete its refreshed, vintage-inspired front panel.

Three-Band Baxandall EQ

The Baxandall-based design delivers broad, smooth curves for balancing complete mixes, stems and individual sources. Each band offers six frequency choices and boost or cut settings of 0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 4 dB in either direction. These stepped settings support subtle mastering adjustments and accurate session recall.

The low band covers 28, 48, 72, 132, 195 and 255 Hz for shaping sub-bass, weight and warmth. The mid band offers 400, 630 and 870 Hz alongside 1.3, 2.4 and 4.8 kHz for adjusting body, definition and presence. The high band provides 4, 7.2, 12, 16, 20 and 25 kHz for controlling brightness and air. A Q of 0.5 supports broad tonal adjustments.

Switchable Peak and Shelving Modes

The low and high bands each offer peak and shelving modes. Shelving adjusts the overall bass or treble balance, while peak mode concentrates the adjustment around the selected frequency. This flexibility supports both broad tonal changes and more targeted shaping within the EQ’s musical response.

Twelve-Frequency High-Pass Filter

The high-pass filter offers 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 Hz settings, with a ×5 multiplier extending these choices to 100, 125, 150, 175, 200 and 225 Hz. Its 12 dB/octave slope and Q of 0.5 reduce rumble and excess bass energy progressively.

In Mid/Side mode, filtering the Side channel reduces low-frequency stereo information, bringing the bass image progressively towards mono. Filtering the Mid channel instead reduces low-frequency energy in the centre.

Integrated Mid/Side Processing

The internal M/S encoder and decoder allow independent processing of the centre and stereo difference signals without external conversion hardware. Mid-channel EQ can adjust centrally positioned elements such as kick, bass and lead vocals, while Side-channel EQ can shape stereo ambience and high-frequency spaciousness.

Channel level controls also adjust stereo width. Increasing the Side level widens the image, while reducing it narrows the image. Conventional Left/Right operation supports separate processing of the two stereo channels.

Cue Monitoring and Recallable Controls

The cue function isolates Left, Right, Mid or Side for focused monitoring, with Mid and Side selection available during M/S operation. Two green LEDs indicate cue activation, while illuminated EQ and M/S switches provide clear status information.

Fully stepped controls make settings repeatable and simplify manual recall. The EQ in/out switch supports direct comparison between the processed and unprocessed signal.

Updated Analogue Signal Path

The electronically balanced signal path contains no electrolytic capacitors and combines revised input, output and EQ stages with improved M/S separation. The TK-lizer 3 delivers a 20 Hz to 80 kHz frequency response within ±0.1 dB, 0.0004% THD+N at 0 dBu, a 95 dB signal-to-noise ratio at 0 dBu and 123 dB dynamic range.

Maximum input and output levels reach +27 dBu and +28 dBu respectively, providing headroom for professional analogue chains. Input impedance measures 20 kΩ, output impedance measures 68 Ω, and M/S channel separation exceeds 60 dB at 0 dBu. The unit draws 10 VA and accommodates 115 V or 230 V mains through an internal voltage selector.
