Universal Audio Volt 2 Gen 2

The Universal Audio Volt 2 Gen 2 is a USB audio interface with two inputs, four outputs, 32-bit/192 kHz conversion, two Tone Shaping Preamps, dedicated Hi-Z instrument inputs, a full-colour Smart Display, Auto-Gain, Clip Protection and USB bus power for recording on Mac, Windows, iPad and iPhone.

Classic Volt Character with Expanded Recording Control

The Volt 2 Gen 2 combines Volt’s accessible recording workflow and analogue-inspired preamp character with three tone-shaping modes, detailed visual monitoring and automatic level management. Developed by the team behind Universal Audio’s Apollo interfaces, it supports vocal, instrument and stereo recording alongside podcasting, livestreaming and music production.

Two Tone Shaping Preamps

Two microphone preamps provide up to 60 dB of digitally controlled gain. Warmth, Focus and Shine modes introduce tonal characteristics associated with tube, solid-state and British Class-A preamps, allowing engineers to shape a source during recording.

The two mic/line inputs accommodate microphones and line-level equipment, while dedicated front-panel Hi-Z inputs accept guitars and basses directly. Two simultaneous input channels support a vocal and instrument performance, a pair of microphones or a stereo source. Independent 48V phantom power allows each microphone channel to supply a condenser microphone separately.

32-bit/192 kHz Conversion and Flexible Monitoring

Volt 2 Gen 2 supports 32-bit conversion at sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz. The microphone and line inputs offer 119 dB A-weighted dynamic range, while the instrument inputs deliver 116 dB, supporting detailed capture across different source types.

A stereo pair of balanced ¼-inch TRS monitor outputs delivers 126 dB A-weighted dynamic range and a maximum output level of 20.2 dBu. A separate ¼-inch stereo headphone output provides one cue mix. These monitor and headphone paths account for the interface’s four output channels.

Full-colour Smart Display

The Smart Display presents input selection, signal levels and settings in full colour. Clear visual feedback helps engineers check recording levels and adjust the interface quickly during setup and tracking.

Auto-Gain and Clip Protection

Auto-Gain sets recording levels in seconds, reducing manual gain adjustment before a take. Clip Protection manages unexpected signal peaks to reduce the risk of clipping when a performance becomes louder. Together, these functions help maintain usable recording levels during sessions.

UAD Console and LUNA Integration

Integration with the UAD Console app and LUNA supports session recall and low-latency cue mixes. Session recall helps restore recording configurations, while cue mixes provide performers with practical monitoring during tracking.

The included LUNA Digital Audio Workstation supplies an environment for recording, editing, mixing and mastering, with tools that support an analogue-inspired production workflow.

Loopback for Podcasts and Livestreams

Built-in loopback combines live input signals with computer audio. This allows content creators to incorporate microphones, instruments and playback sources into podcasts, livestreams and video calls through the same interface.

USB Power and Mobile Recording

USB bus power supports recording without a separate power supply when the connected device provides sufficient power. A second USB-C port accepts external 5V DC power at a minimum of 1A when the setup requires it. Typical power consumption measures 3.4W, rising to a maximum of 4.9W.

Both USB connections use Type-C connectors, and the host connection operates over USB 2.0. Rugged construction supports regular transport between recording locations.

Included UAD Plug-ins and Production Software

The UAD Volt Studio Bundle combines LUNA with vocal processing, compression, equalisation, ambience, tape effects, instruments and guitar amplification. Topline Vocal Tune handles vocal tuning; the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection and Century Tube Channel Strip provide preamp, EQ and channel processing; and the Teletronix LA-2A Tube Compressor and UA 1176 Classic FET Compressor offer complementary compression options.

Pure Plate Reverb and Galaxy Tape Echo add space and delay, while Oxide Tape Recorder and Vibe Analog Machines introduce analogue-inspired texture. PolyMAX Synth and Anthem Analog Synth expand the instrument selection, and the UAD Lion ’68 Super Lead Amp and UAD Showtime ’64 Tube Amp provide guitar amp tones.

System Requirements and DAW Compatibility

Volt 2 Gen 2 supports Windows 10 64-bit or newer, macOS 12 Monterey or newer, and iOS or iPadOS 16 or newer. Computer systems require an available USB 2.0 or higher port and an Intel, AMD or Apple silicon processor. The package includes a USB cable, and software downloads require an internet connection.

Class-compliant operation supports straightforward connection on compatible Apple devices. Windows systems use the ASIO driver available through UA Connect. Lightning-equipped iPhones and iPads require an Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter, and bus-power requirements vary with the connected device.

DAW compatibility includes Ableton Live, FL Studio, GarageBand, Logic Pro, Pro Tools and other major recording applications. Volt 2 Gen 2 provides analogue connectivity and USB audio, with no MIDI or digital optical connections.
