The Hazelrigg Industries VLC Tube Pre EQ is a sophisticated and versatile all-tube preamp, EQ, and DI combination, expertly crafted to meet the rigorous demands of today's audio professionals by delivering world-class sound quality in a compact form factor.
As the inaugural product in the Hazelrigg Industries Solutions Series, the VLC addresses the sonic challenges faced by audio professionals. This powerful and elegant all-tube preamp/EQ combination is designed to offer exceptional performance while remaining portable enough to fit into an overhead bin.
Heritage and Design
The foundation of the VLC lies in the renowned preamp and power supply design from the VT series of Tube Microphone Preamplifiers by D.W. Fearn. Engineered for sonic transparency and exceptional headroom, the VLC delivers stunning results with dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones. It transforms the way professionals approach their microphone selection during sessions.
Versatile Input Options
A rotary switch on the front panel allows seamless selection between Microphone, Instrument Input (DI), or the Balanced Line Level Input located on the back panel. The all-tube DI path excels with acoustic instruments with pickups, electric bass, modular synths, or any instrument that benefits from the D.W. Fearn touch. The Line Level Input enables the VLC to function as an insert on your mixer or DAW, facilitating quick and easy “re-preamping” during production or mixdown. This feature, a secret weapon for many VLC users, breathes new life into tracks from remote clients or adds extra character to a mix when needed.
Advanced Tone Shaping
The VLC offers powerful tone contouring through its passive LC EQ. The low end is managed by variable Low Cut and Low Boost controls, while the high end is shaped with High Boost and High Cut dials. Each control includes a two-way High/Low Frequency Select switch for precise tone adjustments. The musicality of these controls, even at extreme settings, encourages professionals to trust their ears while fine-tuning their sound. An EQ In/Out toggle is conveniently positioned to easily check your adjustments.
